My Art Collection
Each piece is a lived moment—layered, deliberate, and unapologetically real. These works aren’t decoration; they’re records of becoming. Built from contrast, tension, and release, every painting reflects the complexity of choosing your own path.

THE ART of
Becoming
Nicole Ackerman paints what cannot be spoken. Working in large-scale acrylic on deep matte black, her work captures the raw tension of transformation—where identity is forged under pressure and nothing is guaranteed.
Color breaks through darkness in deliberate, explosive movement. The black holds everything unresolved and real. The color is what refused to stay contained. Every mark is intentional. Every piece is lived.
This is not decoration. It is documentation—of risk, of change, of choosing yourself when it costs everything.

After two decades building a career and raising her children as a single mother, Ackerman returned to her voice—fully, and without compromise.
Trained in fine art and cultural anthropology, with early exhibitions including work shown at Art Basel, she stepped away from painting for years. In 2023, she chose differently.
“I had a choice: keep betraying myself or take the plunge into who I really am.”
That decision lives inside every canvas—layered, precise, and emotionally charged. Her work reflects the complexity of starting over, and the power of choosing it anyway.
Nicole Ackerman paints
what cannot be said any other way.
Working in large scale acrylic on deep matte black, her paintings document the interior experience of transformation — the specific electricity of becoming yourself when everything is at stake and there is no guarantee. Bold color erupts from darkness in sweeping gesture and explosive mark. Nothing is accidental. The black is not background. It is everything dense and unresolved and real. The color is everything that refused to stay contained inside it.
Ackerman holds dual bachelor's degrees in cultural anthropology and fine art, studied painting and photography in New York, and exhibited work as early as the 2000s — including pieces shown at Art Basel through her work with designers. But for twenty years she set her own voice aside, building a career in sales and raising her children as a single mother. In 2023 she made a different choice.
"I burned bridges in my sales career as I realized those relationships and environments weren't serving me. I had a choice: keep betraying myself or take the plunge into who I really am."
That plunge is visible in every painting. Her technical obsession — the pore of the paint, the density of layered color, the way light lives inside a surface built over time — is inseparable from her emotional language. She is not decorating. She is documenting. Each piece is an honest record of something lived: the complexity, the contradiction, the terrifying aliveness of a life chosen deliberately after years of performing a safer one.
Her work is made for people who are also in the middle of something. Who are complex and unresolved and electric and real. People who stand in front of a painting and recognize not the image — but themselves.
Ackerman is based in South Florida and works from her studio in Boca Raton. Her originals and limited editions are available through NicoleAckermanArt.com.
